Club teens recently had an unforgettable day learning about community service during a field trip to Santa Monica Fire Department Station 1. From the moment they arrived, curiosity took over. The group was welcomed by firefighters who generously gave their time to walk them through the station and offer a behind-the-scenes look at daily operations.

Teens got up close with the fire engines, learning how each truck is equipped and how specialized tools are used in emergencies. They asked engaging questions about response times, firefighter training, and the skills required, clearly imagining themselves in these important roles.
One of the most exciting moments occurred when the team observed firefighters receiving a real call (not a fire). Watching the crew spring into action so quickly left a lasting impression. Of course, excitement soared when a firefighter slid down the iconic fire pole, inspiring awe and many smiles.

The visit also sparked conversations about career paths, discipline, teamwork, and service. The teens left inspired and with a broader understanding of what it takes to be a firefighter.
After the visit, the group continued their day with a walk along the 3rd Street Promenade, soaking in the area’s energy, before sitting down for a well-earned lunch at Shake Shack, sharing laughs, reflections, and, of course, great food.
We are incredibly grateful to the firefighters at Station 1 for their time, generosity, and for demonstrating that service, teamwork, and commitment can inspire and empower our teens to envision what’s possible in their future!
