A Day at the Ice Rink

Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica recently brought a group of teens to the local Ice Rink for a fun and educational visit. Staff welcomed members and shared what it takes to run a busy rink during the holiday season. Teens saw how much teamwork, planning, and care go into keeping the ice smooth and safe for everyone.

Ice Rink employees explained the daily routines that keep the rink open. Teens learned about the machines that refresh the ice, how staff control temperatures, and how they prepare for large crowds. Many members were surprised to learn that an ice rink relies on many different jobs. Operations, maintenance, guest services, and event planning all work together to create a positive experience for families.

During the tour, teens walked through different work areas, watched staff at work, and asked questions about how people start these careers. Staff shared stories about their own paths and encouraged teens to explore interests in sports, science, customer service, and community recreation. These conversations helped teens see that future opportunities can grow from hobbies and talents they already enjoy.

Skate time became the highlight of the trip. Teens laced up their skates and stepped onto the ice with excitement. Some were trying skating for the first time and discovered a new skill. Others enjoyed helping friends or gliding around confidently.

This visit offered a meaningful mix of learning and fun. Teens left with new memories, new skills, and a better understanding of the people who help create special places for our community.
