On February 4, 2012, SMBGC will celebrate the achievements and contributions of our Club’s extraordinary young people at our Annual Youth of the Year (YOY) Awards Banquet. Read about last year’s banquet and nominees here and view pictures on Facebook.
The YOY program highlights the impact mentoring from a caring adult has on a young person’s life, celebrating the character, service orientation and leadership of our young people. Often, these young people overcome huge personal obstacles –such as poverty, homelessness, neglect or abuse – to reach great personal, educational and professional achievements. Always, their stories are compelling.
This year, four young people have been nominated as the SMBGC Youth of the Year. The winner will be announced at the banquet, and will then be considered among other youths from L.A. county Boys & Girls Clubs to compete at the regional and national level of the BGCA Youth of the Year competition. We will recognize all of our nominees at the banquet, as well as other exceptional Club youth.
