The Youth of the Year journey continued with an exciting second step in our Dress for Success experience: the shopping day. After participating in a workshop focused on professional presentation and self-confidence, our teens were ready to put what they learned into action as they chose outfits for their Youth of the Year interviews and speeches.
Thanks to valuable guidance from Vanessa Lugones and Board Member Derrick Haynes at the workshop, members walked into the shopping experience feeling prepared to select professional outfits that felt like them. With tips on professional attire, personal branding, and confidence, the workshop set the tone for an empowering shopping experience.

Our group visited the newly opened Uniqlo on the Third Street Promenade, where the energy was high and the creativity was on full display. Supported by Boys & Girls Clubs staff every step of the way, members explored different looks, asked questions, and received encouragement as they selected outfits that felt both professional and authentic. Each teen brought their own unique style to the experience, showing that professionalism can still reflect individuality.
Uniqlo staff were also helpful throughout the visit, assisting with sizing, availability, and suggestions when needed. By the end of the trip, our members left with outfits they felt confident in and proud to wear for their interviews and speeches.

This shopping experience marks just the beginning of what’s to come during Youth of the Year season. We’re excited to continue supporting our members as they grow, prepare, and step confidently into their leadership journeys.
