Small Changes, Big Savings

By December 15, 2025December 19th, 2025No Comments

Heating and cooling your home are energy intensive. For most people, it takes up nearly half of their utility bill. Changing just a few everyday habits can make a real difference, helping you save energy and money.

At the Club, kids are already practicing simple ways to save energy; we’re sharing them here to encourage you to try them at home. Keep reading for useful tips!

Around the Home

  • Set your thermostat to 68°F in winter and 78°F in summer.
  • Keep doors and windows closed while heating or air‑conditioning are running.
  • Check and clean or replace air filters monthly, so systems run smoothly.

Kitchen & Laundry

  • Set your water heater to 120°F. It’s efficient and warm enough for daily use.
  • Use cold water for laundry loads when you can.
  • Install low-flow faucets or showerheads to save hot water and lower costs.

Lights & Appliances

  • Swap in LED light bulbs in the rooms you use the most.
  • Use a power strip to make it easy to turn off devices when they’re not in use.
  • When buying new appliances, look for the “Energy Star” label. These use much less electricity than standard models.

Rebates & Support from LADWP
LADWP offers programs to help families make upgrades and save money:

  • Consumer Rebate Program: Rebates for larger equipment like HVAC systems, heat‑pump water heaters, windows, and more.
  • Efficient Product Marketplace: A rebate marketplace for smaller items like LED bulbs, smart thermostats, refrigerators, and more.

At the Club, we’re doing our part each day, and we’re excited to encourage all our families to bring energy‑smart habits into their homes and our community.
