Club teens went on an outdoor adventure that combined education, wellness, and mindfulness. A nature hike on the Malibu Canyon Grasslands Trail was an opportunity to connect with the environment and discover new skills.
From the start, teens became nature detectives, learning about the parkland’s history and identifying native plants, trees, and bird species along the way. They also picked up the important skill of identifying poison ivy!

Midway through the hike, we stopped at a peaceful creek to rest and listen to the flowing water. On the return trip, we practiced a guided moment of silence, giving teens tools for mindfulness, stress relief, and self-reflection.
After the hike, teens reflected on their accomplishments over dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Many shared that being outdoors helped them feel calmer, more connected, and energized.
We are committed to creating opportunities for kids to get outside! In just one trip, Club teens gained environmental awareness, practical life skills, and mindfulness tools while strengthening bonds with peers and mentors. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica, we believe exploration takes many forms—every adventure helps our members discover new strengths and build confidence.
Your support of our work makes these adventures possible for kids and teens. Thank you.
