Ping and I moved to Santa Monica upon marrying in 1982 because this beachside city offered outstanding schools and a diverse population of neighbors and peers for our children, and now grandchildren. The community delivered for us on all counts.
Over the years we’ve watched the Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica consistently produce outstanding programming for those youngsters in our community who most need our support in order to perform competitively and cooperatively both at school and, in the future, the work-a-day world.
A majority of the kids the Club serves come from low-income working families. Yet nearly 100% of its members graduate and take college entrance exams, and 100% of the Clubs’ College Bound program participants enroll in highly respected post-secondary institutions.
Most importantly, we’ve had the opportunity to meet some of the kids and their parents. Top-flight human beings who, if given a chance, will succeed and contribute, and that’s what the Clubs have helped this constituency do for more than 75 years. Supported by an outstanding board of directors, capable executive leadership team and caring staff, we know that our donations will be well stewarded and richly rewarded. That’s why we’ve given to the Clubs for the past 15 years, and have elected to set aside funds from our estate to help ensure their continued success.
