$1000 = Supports an annual Club experience for 1 youth.
$500 = Covers the expenses for a full day field trip for 100 youth.
$250 = Sponsors a monthly “Youth of the Month” recognition ceremony.
$100 = Supports participation in a league sport for 2 youth.
$50 = Provides nutritious snacks for one week for 10 youth.
Our doors are open everyday afterschool and we have over 655 youth attending each day. Why? Kids who are not in an engaging and supervised environment are more likely to be exposed to unsafe situations or fall prey to potentially negative social behaviors. From the hours of 3-7pm, many young people are left to their own devices, because their working parent(s) cannot afford childcare. The population we serve is among the most at risk, with high incidences of academic failure, substance abuse, premature sexual experimentation, violence, gang activity and juvenile delinquency; the chances of a young person’s participation in these activities are greatly reduced with a Club membership.
Our youth are in crisis. Over 80% of CA’s low-income, public school students are performing below their grade level, compared to 52.5% of higher income students. Our state spends 4.4 times more money per prisoner than per public school pupil. And about 20% of California’s high school seniors don’t graduate.
This is why we call upon our community for help. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica depends on the generous support of individuals like you. The annual cost to offer youth engaging experiences that emphasize academics and positive social skills is just $1000 per year or $84 a month. We ask you to consider supporting our Back-A-Youth Campaign and help us create great futures!
