Our caring staff are trained to serve as positive role models and to create a learning scenario out of every game, to nurture self-esteem in every exchange with a child, and to boost the confidence that can be so fleeting during adolescence. The positive relationships our mentors build with children at the Club are a key element of our impact on youth.
80 percent of our members come from low-income households, many from single-family homes, and still others are homeless.
While our cost per child per year is $1,000 – $2,000, we charge only $0 – $20 annually.
We have expanded beyond our 70-year-old Main Branch location, and are now serving 9,000+ kids at 10 sites across 109 zip codes in the Santa Monica and Los Angeles area. Thanks to our expanded locations including local schools and public housing sites, we can now reach young people who may be unable to travel to our Main Branch on a regular basis.
Our nationally recognized programs and activities impact children in three essential ways: academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Our programs foster a sense of belonging, competence, and usefulness, and build self-esteem and self-confidence among Club members.
The Main Branch offers programs in the following areas:
Character & Leadership – Keystone, Torch Club, Youth of the Year
Education & Career – Be Great Graduate, Club Tech, CollegeBound, L3: Learn, Laugh, Love, Power Hour
Health & Life Skills – NetSmartz, Passport to Manhood, SMART Girls
The Arts – Digital Art Suite & Festivals, Music Education, National Fine Arts Exhibit
Sports, Fitness & Recreation – Biddy Basketball League, Triple Play: Healthy Habits
Specialized Initiatives – Family PLUS, Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)
Lace up those shoes and get your skills sharpened, Biddy Basketball is almost ready for another season. Tryouts will begin in November, so don’t miss out.
